Campaigning in Central Pennsylvania
Yesterday I spent the day with Charlie, meeting voters at several festivals throughout central Pennsylvania. The first stop we made was at the annual Lancaster Fest where we enjoyed music from local performers. Spending the day walking the streets, sampling the food and enjoying the work of local artists, we got a chance to speak with many folks from Lancaster. Charlie also amused some of the vendors as he sampled everything from funnel cakes to shortbread at the many concessions that lined downtown Lancaster. Several people gave us support, one giving a real boost by coming up to us and saying: "You're running against Arlen Specter, I hope you beat him." We then headed to the St. Joseph’s Carnival in Manor Township. Our next Senator showed off his old high school pitching form by throwing an unbalanced whiffle ball directly through the clowns mouth, winning a small stuff animal that he later gave to a young future voter (Charlie is already courting for his reelection bid in 2016). Later in the evening, we attended an event for Lancaster County Commissioner's candidate Bill Saylor, at Saylor's Home in Millersville. The mixed crowd of Democrats and disenfranchised Republicans shared familiar thoughts--that it was time for Arlen Specter to go. At the end of the day Charlie said to me "This is going to be a lot of fun." I won't disagree-- it is great to see the people of Pennsylvania out enjoying themselves and in agreement that it's time to replace Specter. |
