Comments you are Making
Here are some of the comments that signers of the Visa Abuse petition are making: Brenda, from Jackson, Pennsylvania comments, I'm very troubled by the fact that American companies are abusing Visa programs in order to bring cheap labor into the US and throw American workers out of their jobs. Further, we are imperilling our own safety by putting so much of our information infostructure into foreign hands. Gwen, from Sykesville, Maryland comments, We've witnessed the export of the electronics industry (it is not possible to find a TV made in the USA). Manufacturing in the US is decimated. The textile industry is heading overseas. The American steel industry is in serious trouble. What happens when there are not enough good jobs to maintain a middle class? Brenda, from Indianapolis, Indiana comments: I'm someone who had to train their Indian replacement, then went four months without employment before taking a major paycut and in a position not anywhere near what I love to do. I have an IT degree from a highly esteemed university, that specializes in technology, and went into the IT world because I love to program. Now, I the only job I can find is writing manuals for programs written by those from India. Sandra, from Kidder, Missouri comments, I believe that outsourcing is morally and ethically wrong. I believe that businesses can find alternatives to cutting labor in order to cut their expenses. Outsourcing sounds like such a nice word, but it's not. Just ask any working family who faces this situation. Rather than outsourcing to foreign countries, it seems to me that these jobs can be outsourced to different communities or states here in America. If they can't afford to operate in California, then why not move to Appalachia? The labor costs would drop, people would have a job, and the job would stay in America where it belongs. I'm also not sure that outsourcing is really the answer long-term either. How long will those people in Asia or India or elsewhere be happy with pittance wages? How long will it be before those people demand the very same things that Americans demand now? What will they do when these people refuse to be exploited? Will they then go to Africa? I invite the heads of these corporations who are outsourcing to sit down with a worker that they have layed off and discuss the value of just one job to the average American. Perhaps they might realize just how harmful outsourcing is! Jason, from Plainfield, Illinois comments, H1 and L1 Visa programs need serious regulation. They are responsible for many IT job losses and need to be reviewed with respect to the long-term impacts on American workers and economy. online casinos Posted by: casinos at May 25, 2004 06:28 PMThis campaign is so very important. It is imperative that we bring to the forefront the loss of jobs, not only in manufacturing, but the white collar high skill jobs that are being offshored or given to foreign workers on visas willing and able to provide cheap labor. Irregardless of their chosen career paths, thousands upon thousands of our recent college graduates are unemployed or underemployed. "No child left behind"? Entry level jobs for them have become non-existent. Their massive college loans are due, but this government has sold them out and failed to provide them with job opportunities to repay them. Our children and grandchildren deserve better than this. After all, they will be the ones who have to pay down the deficit and it won't be easy slinging burgers while deeply in debt for their educations.
