Free Trader vs. Free Trader: Hoeffel Attacks Specter on the Economy
Joe Hoeffel, a self-described "Free Trader" who supports NAFTA, the WTO, China's membership in the WTO, and an increase in visas for foreign technology workers, attacked Arlen Specter for the laggard condition of our economy. This is a case of the pot calling the kettle black. Free trade is gutting middle America, and training isn't the answer, as Joe seemed to think back in August when he spoke on PCN. Training on what, and for what? Technology? Joe clearly doesn't get economic issues, or he does and just doesn't care. Carry a big stick, Joe. Sign the Petition on L-1 visa abuse. Demand action on China and Japan for manipulating their currencies, and China for dumping products, subsidizing industry, and relabeling through Mexico. Join Manzullo and Schumer in the fight to get action on rogue trading partners. And take an economics course. Training (the DLC line Joe quotes as a solution for the unemployed) doesn't make a damn bit of difference when the jobs are going overseas. Ask any of the thousands of PhD's still looking for work. Job creation doesn't happen in a vacuum. Joe, join the dozens of other Congressional leaders already fighting the root causes of job loss. So far, you and Specter are birds of a feather, peas in a pod, and as you've said, "pretty much" similar.
