Students Rally for University Professors
We met some really great people today in Harrisburg at the rally for college professors! Students from at least 7 colleges around the state travelled here to protest the Chancellor's unfair contract proposals, which include giving up some health benefits and accept a salary freeze. The Chancellor, by the way, makes $290,000 or so, while the average pay for professors is about $83,000, lower than most other states in our region. If education is so important, why do we allow our leadership to continue to nickel and dime educators, increase obstacles for students through tuition hikes and new fees, and saddle our students with huge debt? Send the right message, do the right thing, and start investing in the future of our country. To the students who demonstrated: You deserve better than they are giving you. So do our educators across the state. You spoke, you spoke loudly and clearly, and you were heard. You are forcing them to deal with you on this issue, you brought democracy to them, you pushed them to live up to their rhetoric about education. You are the heroes today, because you stood up and spoke truth to power. You might not see the results today or even next week, but you made a difference and gave hope to both students and educators around the state. Never give up--press on!
