Picket Wal-Mart, Buy Local Days
Wal-Mart accounts for over 10% of US imports from China, cutting out American manufacturers. It's hard to find anything that's made in America at Wal-Mart. Further, they put small businesses out of business. That's just not right. So we're going to Picket Wal-Mart and Buy Local every Friday until Christmas, starting the day after Thanksgiving, the biggest shopping day of the year. Here's why: So make the Friday after Thanksgiving your Buy Local, Boycott Wal-Mart day. Spend your money at the local hardware store, the pet store, the gift shop downtown, or the local toy store. Seek out entrepreneurs trying to survive in a Wal-Mart world, buy locally, and show how your economic strength can make a difference for good in the world. Let's show Wal-Mart what it means to be a good American company. Make your own signs, get some friends together and show up at 9 am and 12 noon to picket your local Wal-Mart. I'll personally be at one of our fine Wal-Mart locations in Central PA (announcement to come). online casinos Posted by: casinos at May 25, 2004 06:20 PMYes--the Wal-Mart debacle is very high on my list to address. Can I count on each of you leading small pickets at the local Wal-Mart? We have folks across teh country joining in. Thanks so much! ps: visa issue is about to become headline news... Posted by: Charlie Crystle at November 19, 2003 07:17 PMI no longer patronize Wal-Mart for the reasons you gave *and* because they have hired illegal aliens /foreign workers. (I believe their was collusion between contractors and Wal-Mart execs.) In my area, there is a large Meijer store and Kroger grocery with competitive prices a wide product selection and unionized employees who earn a living wage. I applaud your efforts to call attention to the abuses of Wal-Mart and their hypocritical advertising that implies they want to sell American products. Posted by: John ~~~~~~ at November 15, 2003 10:51 AMDid you see the WSJ yesterday on the cover Charlie? There was a story about China goods, and how even over there in China, the Human Rights issue is a big problem. It also said that Wallmat is going from 12% to 15% of all its goods being from China this year. I think the Wallmart Democrats need some education (also a good article in the WSJ yesterday on how Indian business lobbyists are skirting around the visa issue-- another issue of yours, I believe).
