People in PA will go hungry this winter, while Arlen Specter spends $10 million to fight off Pat Toomey. Arlen should be able to win on the merits of his record and his campaign. He doesn't need to spend $10 million. Arlen, I have an idea that will win you the election and make you look like a hero. Spend $5 million to beat Toomey, and give $5 million to a variety of conservative-backed community service organizations. You'll be respected for doing the right thing with the money, and you'll still beat Toomey. Isn't it time we stop the madness of campaign spending?

Speaking of campaigning, I'll issue the following challenge to Joe Hoeffel. Joe, we have about 5 months to the primary and neither of us have great name id across the state. Debate me twice a month around the state until mid-April--we can split the debates into different subjects, perhaps in a town-hall setting. And let's both commit to limiting campaign spending so the winner has something left over for the general election. We'll change the way elections are held by giving people a real look into who we are and what our positions are. You're clearly a more experienced speaker than I, so you have an advantage going in, plus we'll both benefit from the exposure from the debates. I look forward to hearing from you.
