FTAA Protest in Philly
Today many in Philadelphia near Independence Hall protesting the Free Trade Agreement of the Americas. Negotiated and guided by US trade Representative and former Enron beneficiary Robert Zoellick (this administration has no shame), the FTAA is yet another example of policies for the few at the expense of the rest of us. Small businesses do not have a seat at the table; nor do regular people. Brazil was the only country with representatives for the people and for small businesses at this week's meetings in Miami. Zoellick regards "partner" countries merely as large pools of cheap labor for his multi-national clients. This is not fair or balanced trade. We must stand up to this kind of globalization, designed for the rich at the expense of the poor. We must fight for fairness--fair labor standards, intelligent and cost-effective environmental controls, human rights adherence and monitoring, and transparency in the process of developing these agreements. In doing so we will get closer to developing fair and balanced trade, which will lead to job retention in most areas and job gains in others where unfairness has led to losses. But we need your voice. Join the protest in Philadelphia today at 1 pm.
