Bush's Baghdad Campaign Stop
I look at Bush's "secret" stop in Baghdad in two ways: first, it's his job to visit the troops and cheer them on, so my applause for finally doing your job, George. Second, it's a brilliant campaign gimmick, likely the brainchild of Karl Rove. But where has he been when kids come home in bodybags? Nowhere. Bush shows up for the glory, never for the pain. Which is yet another reason to kick him [edited] out of office. He just doesn't get it--his job is not to be a full-time ad for Bush/Cheney 2004, it's to run the country. Part of running the country is taking responsibility for the losses incurred while running it, right or wrong. Italy had a national day of grief when 17 of its soldiers died in a bombing. We've had Bush in flight jackets and flak jackets, but never in funeral attire. Given the large number of "post-war" deaths--now over 400--isn't it time Bush acknowledges the losses and at leasts pays respects to the grieving families?

I was there in Gulf 1 and will probably be deployed this year to return. One thing I can say is that I am glad Bush didn't show up at my brothers funeral we had stateside because there are usually a large number of press around, SS agents, and a whole entourage of sycophants who follow. Maybe you would like 50 other people showing up at your family members funeral, but if you think for one minute your rambling represents all the families of those killed, then you are grossly mistaken. As much as your limp-wristed sissy post irritates me, I will go over there and take a bullet if it means you get to keep your freedom for me. And there are hundred of thousands of my brothers and sisters that would do the same. Now ask yourself this...would you do it for me? Thought not. Semper Fi. Rest in Peace, William. Staff Sergeant Frank Cribbs, USMC Posted by: Sgt. F.N. Cribbs at January 22, 2004 08:41 AMGood job Sam...you are doing a great job of making us liberals look like we have any concern over what image we are representing. Hey, Kerry just said George Bush was a "fuck-up", so I think you are in the clear with using Bastard there Charlie, though I can see how Republicans might find it offensive. But wait a sec there, these are the same Republicans that don't think twice about saying offensive language like "they attack Bush for attacking the terrorists.." so fuck the bastards! Posted by: Sam at December 6, 2003 06:56 PMI will concede; you're right. I'll keep my comments from dipping into the offensive (I agree, it's a two-way street). Edits will follow. Posted by: Charlie at December 3, 2003 04:24 PMWith consideration for your anger and dissapointment with the Bush administration, I submit to you your own cautionary words, found on the comment entry page. I am not "handled", if that's what you are asking. I've thought about this a bit since the first complaint and decided to let it stand. I'm angry and I'm speaking my mind. I don't take it back--Bush has been horrendous for regular people in this country. This administration has lied, sent over 400 soldiers to their deaths because of inadequate planning and then failed to show at their funerals, sold US manufacturing down the river, and taken away our civil liberties through the Patriot Act. I call it like I see it, and sometimes it's going to appear to be rude so some people, and if my use of course language loses votes, then I feel sorry for America because we're missing the point. I think it's to the point, accurate, appropriate, and timely. I feel the same way about Specter. Charlie, who is doing your proofreading? RE: "Which is yet another reason to kick the bastard out of office." Though on the otherhand, I've seem even more colorful language spoken in the Senate chamber. Posted by: Tree T at December 1, 2003 04:23 PMIt's rather sad that "W" has yet to attend a funeral. I suppose one of his excuses could be that he was too busy at one of the many fundraisers he has been attending. Posted by: elder at November 29, 2003 09:01 PMI find it beneath the dignity of the United States Senate that a candidate for that office steeped in history and honor would refer to the President of The United States as a bastard. George Bush may be many things to many people, but a bastard he is not. He is a caring Christian man whom you happen to have a disagreement with over policy. I wish you would consider apologizing for such an ignorant characterization of the president. Posted by: Perry at November 29, 2003 03:10 PMShowing up to cheer the troops is fine, but it doesn't make up for terrible policy that got us there and keeps us there. Posted by: JM at November 28, 2003 05:02 PMI'm surprised he didn't leak it himself, the chicken: Bush said he had been the "biggest skeptic of all" that the visit could be pulled off in secret, and he had no qualms about canceling if it couldn't. "I was fully prepared to turn this baby around, come home," if news leaked out before he landed, he said.
