Dean isn't calling for it.

I don't know if this is Dean playing safe or just Deans' pragmatic approach to things, but he doesn't share the belief that health care is a right we should invest in, taking instead the safe, non-threatening band-aid approach.

My personal goal in life is simple: to improve the human condition. I believe that when it comes to matters of the human condition we should not do business as usual. If something exists to ease someone's pain, he should have it. If regular treatment can extend a child's life, he should receive it, regardless of personal wealth or circumstance. That is the American Way. We take care of each other, we have each other's backs.

Universal Health Care in the United States is achievable now. Some day, it will be achievable for every person in every country of the world. As with many things we value but fail to support, achieving health care for all is not a question of resources or expense, it's a question of political will.

Starting January 24th in Pittsburgh, PA, I will begin working with a group of dedicated people to bring Universal Health Care to the United States through a single-payer, publicly financed insurance system. We will work to the develop the political will among our politicians; it exists among our fellow citizens.
