Other Candidates & Health Care
A number of other candidates, of course, already support universal health care. The most attractive plan is from Dennis Kucinich. People point this out to me every time I criticize Dean for his stance on health care, but I'm not backing Dean based on a single issue. We can introduce health care proposals in Congress and through the Secretary of Health and Human Services (I'm hoping that will be DK)--it doesn't have to come from Dean himself and he hasn't said he would veto any attempt to insure all people. I think Dean's dropping the ball on this issue (and on economics, failing to inspire confidence in his economic plan) but I still think he's the right guy overall and have for over a year. But he's getting careful and less concise. I think it's a mistake. Posted by Charlie Crystle at January 15, 2004 11:40 AM | TrackBackvery good site!! Posted by: sex and lucia at July 25, 2004 05:04 AMI endorsed Dean and stand by it. That doesn't mean I shouldn't question him. I don't think he's strong enough on trade, an economic vision, and health care. I do think he's strong on challenging Bush, the Democratic establishment, on when the use of force is appropriate, and on participatory democracy. I think he's a great leader, and great leaders listen to dissent and consider outside opinions. I'm going to continue to point out deficiencies while cheering him on...sounds corny, but to me that's a patriotic role to play. btw--if you're going to post here, please identify yourself.
