Dean fading--what happens to Deaniacs?
Howard Dean has built a large, effective, dedicated group of people determined to change politics in the US. While Dean was unable to transition from movement leader to likable candidate, he has built a potentially powerful network of people whose energies could be focused on, say, universal health care. Or on electing progressives in their home states. Dean can still be a force in politics--it depends on how he decides to lead his people as he exits. What would be great is if he just handed over the site and the tools to his supporters--let tem really own his campaign. They can continue on as an autonomous group, searching for the right candidates to support. They could raise money incredibly quickly for featured congressional candidates, for instance. He never made the transition to presidential candidate from movement leader, and the majority of people voting just didn't have faith in his ability to beat Bush on issues of security.
