My Next Move

I'm getting a lot of email asking me what I'm up to and whhen I'm going to run again. I've been encouraged to run against Rick Santorum, which sounds like it would be a great time given he's such a complete ass. Since I left the US Senate race, I've helped Joe Hoeffel on economic policy (especially around trade) and fundraising (still calling, Joe), started PushNow.org in support of universal health care, and continued the fight for work justice by working to get the state to stop using cheap foreign labor on state contracts. I didn't just fall back into the safe world of software, which tells me something--I'm pretty hooked on trying to have positive impact through politics.

But I'm taking a longer-term view of things and don't think I'll run against Santorum unless Barabara Hafer is the only Dem in the race--I just couldn't sit back while another Specter tries to take power. But I'm pretty sure someone like Kukovich will run, and if he does I'll help him campaign enthusiastically.

I like the software world and we're about to release our first product, so that's exciting. And I'm likely to start two other ventures--one in bio-fuels and one in "last-mile" wireless connectivity. I've entertained working for the State; I wouldn't turn down the Trade position if offered.

But it's most likely I'll run locally, and there are only two spots open in the next cycle: Lancaster city council and mayor. I'm not much of a committee-type guy, so you can guess which way I'm leaning. I've lived in Lancaster most of my life, with a 2-year stint in Seattle, 2 in New York, and 5 in Delaware at college. I could live anywhere in the world. But home is home--I realized that when I moved out of New York and eventually back here. There's just nothing like it--the friends, family, the smell of fresh manure in the Spring. Now, being 36 and single in Lancaster isn't what I had in mind, but I suppose there's still hope...

A short note to let you know we are charging forward with the American HealthCare Party. As someone must be first in the pool I will be announcing my candidacy for US Senate as the first HealthCare Party candidiate. This will be happening in the Gold Room at the Allegheny County Courthouse, 4th floor, at 10:00 AM on Wednesday April 7th. Our little campaign office will also open next week in Sewickley (ironically).

I have two very good prospects for a couple of the House Districts out this way. One is a physician and the other a retired educator. If they can commit we may be able to build some momentum leading to formal announcements in Philadelphia.

I understand totally your reluctance to become involved in our effort. However, we need help across the state.
