Well, no, George, that's not really what the numbers mean. 308,000 jobs were added to payrolls last month. At the same time, unemployment claims rose from 5.6% to 5.7%. George, this isn't the good news you were waiting for. What you're missing besides a few cards short of a full deck is the Big Picture.

The Big Picture, George, isn't as rosey a place as the short-term 308,000 jobs added. We lost jobs, too. New jobs aren't as valuable as the old jobs we keep losing. The new jobs pay less, they tend to be in the retail or food service sectors, they have fewer benefits, and a number of them require the use of hairnets. That's not good news, George. That's bad news.

See, India and a few other countries are wisely positioning themselves to take the good jobs. The bad new jobs are filled with people who used to have good jobs, but now they are bitter because 1) they have to wear a uniform 2) they get paid 1/3 of what they used to get paid and 3) they possibly trained their replacement and 4) well, hairnets were never popular, George. I'd bet my house these folks will be voting in November, and I'm pretty sure they aren't thinking you're an economic genius.

So before you start claiming victory, think of the Big Picture, George. I'm guessing you've never had to wear a uniform to work just to pay the mortgage. And when you did have the chance to wear a uniform, you didn't show. Never mind, George. I don't think you'd even get the Big Picture. Stick to memorizing soundbites.
