Reagan in Heaven
Reagan's in heaven. Or so says Michael Reagan, his step-son. MR spoke at his stepfather's funeral with the piety and self-righteousness of Jerry Falwell on a Sunday morning at an Arkansas revival. You see, Michael is more than just a son. He's a hate-mongering radio talk-show host. And he's decided that God has accepted Reagan into heaven. Well, if that's the case, God and I have some things to talk about, not the least of which are the tens of thousands of people who have died needlessly because of Ronald Reagan. Ok, sure, he had a big smile and a disarming charm. But that's a pretty low bar for getting through the eye of the needle. Maybe we're talking about a different God. This has been a long week of lots of redundant and excessive TV coverage of the great communicator's death. Sure, you're not supposed to speak badly of the dead. But the alternative is to look at history blindly and simply accept the conservatives' line that Reagan was a great president. It's just not true. Speak truth to power, folks.
